The concerts have come and gone, and were a success. Bravo to all performers and composers.
These pages will remain as a testament to this project : : . . .
In recent years Hartford has become a nexus for new music. A wide variety of performance projects have resonated in the local halls with increasing frequency, featuring cutting-edge works written for onsite first-rate performers by Hartford's own formidable compositional talent.
2005's Hartford Commissions Concerts are designed to celebrate this outstanding output and present an overview of this creative continuum.
The set of two concerts will be presented both in Hartford, at the Hartt School, and later in NYC, at Merkin Hall ( Feb 26, 8:00p.m. and Feb 27, 3:00p.m. )
Solos, duos and trios will be performed by Robert Black, bassist (Bang on a Can All-Stars), Katie Lansdale, violinist (Lions Gate Trio), and John McDonald, pianist (Extensions Works Ensemble).
Composers represented include the long-standing forces behind Hartford's new music scene: Robert Carl, James Sellars, Ken Steen, Peter Alexander, and one of the vibrant voices of Hartford's newest generation of composers, Dan Román.
Also featured are composers who have written for Hartford performers: New York's David MacDonald and Boston's John McDonald.
